ABOUT LAMB OF GOD:

Richmond, VA natives LAMB OF GOD originally formed in 1994 as Burn The Priest while in college together at Virginia Commonwealth University, initially performing in meagre venues and hocking rough demos amongst the local scene. In 1998, the band changed their moniker to LAMB OF GOD, which would mark their impending ascension to top-tier status, as well as one of the only tangible career deviations that the band would ever undertake – having consistently released chart-topper after chart-topper while maintaining a true and constant line-up of members and increasingly growing fanbase; a rarity in modern music. The band’s first major release, 2000’s New American Gospel, was immediately touted as an instant metal classic. AllMusic stated it best, “The essential signatures of post-Pantera metal are in abundance on Lamb of God’s inaugural album. New American Gospel provides a mighty oak upon which gritty American metal’s faith is maintained, effectively bridging the ’90s’ insistence upon drill-sergeant technicality and the old school’s determined focus on riff construction.”

In 2007, just a short time after putting out monumentally successful releases Ashes of the Wake(Album, 2004, #27 of 200 debut), Killadelphia(DVD, 2004, RIAA Platinum), and Sacrament(Album, 2006, #8 of 200 debut), LAMB OF GODwas honored with a Grammy nomination for the track “Redneck”. This would mark the first of four Grammy nominations for the band. After the release of Walk With Me In Hell (DVD, 2008), the second and third Grammy nominations came in 2010 and 2011 for tracks “Set to Fail” and “In Your Words”, both cut from Wrath (CD, 2009, #2 of 200 debut). The fourth nomination arrived for the band’s track “Ghost Walking”, cut from their 2012 album Resolution (CD, #3 of 200 debut). Now, on the cusp of releasing their seventh full-length album VII: Sturm Und Drang, the five-piece is poised to prove their lasting consistency by offering another blistering contribution of the highest quality heavy metal – a record that no one other than LAMB OF GOD could truly execute.

Having amassed the globe with countless world tours and millions of albums sold, all-the-while overcoming countless hurdles ranging from personal demons to vocalist Randy Blythe’s 2013 trial in Prague (which resulted in the acclaimed 2014 full-length feature documentary, As The Palaces Burn, and upcoming book, Dark Days: A Memoir, authored by the frontman and releasing in July), LAMB OF GOD stands the test of time as the biggest, most influential heavy metal band of the new millennimum.

Randy Blythe Releases Final Book Cover For His Book ‘Dark Days: A Memoir’

The final cover art for Randy Blythe‘s first book, “Dark Days: A Memoir”, can be seen below. The book will be released on July 14 via Da Capo Press, and Random House in the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa.

From Randys Instagram: “The cover was designed by Paul R. Brown of Bau-da Design LabPaul is a photographer, director and graphic designer who has worked with a million bands on album covers and videos, as well as doing book covers for Nikki SixxMarilyn MansonMötley Crüe and my pal Corey Taylor. The two photographs incorporated into the design were both taken by me. One is of Pankrác prison- I took this photo when I went back for trial- the other is a self-portrait. I put on some extreme right wing talk radio and hit a remote shutter button a million times. I wanted to make sure I had forgotten about the camera so I would get an ‘honest’ photo. The radio did the trick. I was HIGHLY disturbed listening to their insane rantings and that was what you see in the photo. I did NOT want my photo on the cover of the book, as it is not really a typical ‘rock memoir’ and there are more than enough photos of me out there already, but it IS my first book, so I acquiesced to the publisher’s request. At least it’s not a cheesy ‘author/rock singer’ photo, just me hanging out in my study, thinking about how nutty some people are. Note that the subtitle at bottom is simply ‘A Memoir’, NOT ‘My Trials & Tribulations’. I hated that, but we needed a working subtitle and someone else threw it out there, and before I knew it, BLAM it was up on Amazon. Speaking of which, the book is available for pre-order there (probably still with the ‘working cover’).”

The book is available for pre-order via Amazon, where it is already #1 bestselling Heavy Metal Musician Biography.

Chris Adler Of Lamb Of God Joins DAVE MUSTAINE In The Studio For New MEGADETH Album.

Dave Mustaine, the creative driving force behind original American metal and hard rock crossover giants MEGADETH, and Chris Adler, drummer for the leaders of modern American heavy metal LAMB OF GOD, will join bassist David Ellefson in the creation of MEGADETH’s anticipated forthcoming album. Adler will be appearing as a guest on the album and contributing his thundering, hard-hitting, and technically precise style and skill, adding new blood and drive into the mix while staying true to MEGADETH’s roots.

Dave Mustaine comments, “Chris is a tremendous talent, and an amazing person. He is going to bring a new level of excitement and energy to MEGADETH that the fans are going to lose their minds over. I have nothing but respect for my previous drummers, but this is going to absolutely KILL! Back in 1989, MEGADETH originally worked as a three piece – guitar, bass and drums – when we laid down the framework to our GRAMMY® nominated platinum album ‘Rust In Peace.’ I want to thank the other members of Lamb Of God for allowing this opportunity to take place for all of us in the metal community.”

David Ellefson adds, “Chris has been an endearing friend to us in MEGADETH for many years now, and he truly appreciates our music and its legacy. His drumming has forged such an innovative and ferocious path for metal music and I’m very proud that he is anchoring our rhythm section with us on this new album. I can clearly see a new dawn of ‘utmost heaviness’ unfolding in MEGADETH’s next chapter.”

Chris Adler offers, “MEGADETH was the game changer for me. Growing up, there was no other band that meant as much to my musical interest and direction. There is no doubt I would not be doing what I have been doing for the past three decades had I not stumbled across ‘Killing Is My Business’ and the bible of all metal, ‘Peace Sells‘ in my formative years.”

“About 10 years ago, LAMB OF GOD toured with MEGADETH and I was able to share that story with Dave and David, and we have kept in touch ever since,” adds Adler. “When Dave called me a while ago and asked if I was interested in making a thrash metal album with him, I felt like I must’ve been on a hidden camera show. “I was trying to play it cool, but I was speechless other than YES! Once I called my wife and my band guys to let everyone know, I had some time to really think about it and how I can best fit into this situation. I’m coming into this on fire. There is an incredible amount of respect, but the goal here is to make the very best thrash album we can. Together, I believe we can do something very special! Get ready for a very exciting chapter in the MEGADETH legacy.”

The new album is the follow up to MEGADETH’s 2013 release, Super Collider.  Super Collider hit No. 6 on The Billboard 200 and No. 3 on both the Top Rock Albums and Top Hard Rock Albums charts consecutively. To date, MEGADETH has sold more than 38 million albums worldwide and has scored five Top 10 albums, two Top 5 releases.

Lamb Of God Partners With Specticast For Worldwide Distribution Of “As The Palaces Burn” Feature Film.

Lamb Of God are pleased to announce that they have entered in to a worldwide distribution deal with Specticast (Led Zeppelin Celebration Day, Paul McCartney Rock Show) for their Don Argott (Last Days Here, Art of the Steal, School of Rock) directed feature film “As The Palaces Burn”. Filming for the feature began in 2012 and concluded in March of 2013.

“As The Palaces Burn”, not to be confused with the making-of documentary packaged with the recent re-release of the 2003 LAMB OF GOD album of the same name, was conceived to be a documentary focused on the power of music and its impact on cultures around the world and its ability to bring together people of all nationalities regardless of religious or political differences. After a worldwide casting call, filming took place in Colombia, Venezuela, Israel, India, and the United States. As filming reached its conclusion, the documentary was forced to take a major turn when the band’s lead singer, Randy Blythe, was arrested in the Czech Republic and charged with the murder of a fan in June 2012. Granted unique access to Blythe’s continuing saga, Argott’s filming covered Blythe’s 38 day imprisonment in Prague, his release and the band’s return to live performances, and finally Blythe’s trial for murder in Prague in February 2013.

“As The Palaces Burn” will debut worldwide on February 27th. Following the film, a 30 minute Q&A with the entire band and director Don Argott will be shown. The Q&A was conducted by VH1 Classics Eddie Trunk and filmed at the final show of the band’s North American tour in support of their most recent release, Resolution.

Lamb Of God Announce ‘As The Palaces Burn’ 10th Anniversary Remastered CD And DVD

RandyBlythe

Ten years ago, Lamb Of God released their debut album ‘As The Palaces Burn’. They’re also reissuing several of the As The Palaces Burn t-shirts as deluxe versions of the set.

The remastered CD includes a new bonus dvd documentary, 3 previously unreleased tracks and new album liner notes.

Chris Adler stated; ”We are lucky to have the opportunity, a decade after our first attempt, to bring what I consider to be our master work up to speed sonically. Ever since the original release we’ve been distraught about the sonic qualities of ‘As the Palaces Burn’.  The band had captured lightening in a bottle and the budget limitation of a sophomore album turned our lightening into a firefly in a jar. The songs are undeniable and we’ve always been very proud of how this album launched our career. It feels appropriate to revisit now that we can and give this very special album the chance to reach our original hopes and it’s true potential.”

Randy Blythe Talks To RVA News about Photography, Social Media And Sobriety

RandyBlythe

Online news site RVA News, based in Lamb Of God’s home town Richmond, Virginia, recently sat down with frontman Randy Blythe to discuss his photography and more.

Randy discussed how he decided to ‘unplug’ from social media after what he describes as a ‘rough’ Twitter bender ;

“This Twitter thing, I started interacting with people, and I had 40-50,000 people following me. When you have that much humanity directed at one person–the hive mind–people become upset when you don’t talk to them or, if they say rude things to you, because I’m a public person, people seem to think that through the anonymity of the Internet they can say whatever they want.”

Randy’s original intention was to disconnect from the internet entirely, and write about his experiences, but after speaking to Hatebreed vocalist Jamey Jasta, he decided to make a film instead. To that end he purchased a Canon EOS 60D and set about learning how to use it.

Unforeseen to Randy, but the situation in Czech Republic affected his plans- suddenly he needed the internet to communicate with lawyers back in the US. Despite the postponement of his film, Randy’s new found passion for photography remained.
RandyBlythe

“When I returned to the Czech Republic earlier this year to stand trial, I made it a point to photograph as much of Prague as possible, for it’s a beautiful city. Towards the end of my trial, I returned to walk the surrounding grounds of Pankrác Remand Prison, the 123 year old crumbling prison where I was held for 34 of my 37 days of incarceration. It was quite strange being there, looking at it from the outside, wondering if I would return to its confines at the end of my trial.”

Randy left Twitter, but shortly after replaced it with Instagram, which he prefers as it allows him to express the thought process behind an image in a way that a 140 character tweet couldn’t;

“I’ve gotten some really nice constructive criticism and some valuable information from Instagram, from followers who happen to be professional photographers.”

Randy’s heavy drinking came about when Lamb Of God began to find success. No longer needing a straight and steady job, and having a reasonable income he “just went crazy, drinking”. His touring cycles meant he was drinking heavily while working overseas, and then sobering up on his return home. Around 2010, Randy confided in friends while on tour and decided to stop drinking.

“When I sobered up, photography became great. Right now I’m writing a memoir of my last year. That never would have happened had I been drunk. I never would have made it through my trial in one piece had I been drunk. Sobriety enabled me to do things”

Malaysia Decline Application For Lamb Of God To Play In Kuala Lumpur On September 28th.

The news we’ve feared for the last few weeks has been confirmed- The Communications And Multimedia Ministry of Malaysia has rejected Lamb Of God’s application to play Kuala Lumpur in September.

According to the ministry, “The performances of the group were found to infringe on the religious sensitivities and cultural values of Malaysian society”. The decision was reached earlier today at a Central Committee meeting for ‘Applications For Filming And Performances By Foreign Artistes’.

We reported a few days ago that The Department Of Islamic Development In Malaysia (Jakim) objected on the basis “the practices and acts of black metal groups were misguided and contrary to the true teachings of Islam”, and cited the band’s use of verses from the Quran.

PAS Youth in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia also called for a boycott of the show, claiming ‘Walk With Me in Hell’, from the 2006 album Sacrament, had parts of Quranic verses arranged in “inappropriate” positions.

Sad news for the excited Malaysian Lamb Of God fans. If you are a muslim fan, or were planning to go to the show, we’d love to hear your comments below.

UPDATE: The band has now issued an official statement on the matter.

As widely reported, LAMB OF GOD’s concert in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia scheduled for September 28th has been cancelled by the government, who refused to issue a permit for the show even though the concert had been on sale and had sold over 1,500 tickets.

LAMB OF GOD’s guitarist Mark Morton has issued the following statement regarding the decision by the Malaysian government. Shows scheduled in New Zealand, Australia, and Thailand will still be performed by the group:

“It is very evident (and a bit frustrating) that the groups, parties and powers that have taken the most offense to our music and lyrics, have themselves only made a passing glance at the content and meanings of those songs. We would invite anyone offended by our music to engage in a discussion regarding the true motivations behind our work, especially before publicly slandering us based on assumptions and shallow misinterpretation.

We sincerely apologize to our amazing fans in Malaysia for the cancellation. Many thanks to all who have spoken out in support of us through this.”
