The Design Process Behind Lamb Of God’s ‘As The Palaces Burn’ Album Art.

Some albums have artwork that is just as memorable as the songs themselves, but unlike the songs, the stories behind the art are almost never told.

Lamb Of God’s long time art director K3n Adams created the album artwork for the 2003 release ‘As The Palaces Burn’ from junk, “Actually, a lot of the same junk I used for New American Gospel” he says. The concept for the cover was Technology Worship, and it was designed to look as if technology had become a deity, organic matter fusing with circuitry to become one organism.

K3n’s take on the ‘Shroud Of Turin’ was added as an overlay. The shroud was made up of various wiring diagrams, weaving the theme of technology as a god over the piece and creating a ‘skin’. In the initial run of 70,000 copies, the shroud was printed onto a separate clear Mylar insert. During the printing process static would build up in large amounts and shock the printing press workers, despite various efforts to prevent it.
